Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the serum protein profile, with emphasis on acute-phase proteins and immunoglobulins, in healthy newborn buffalo calves. Blood serum samples of 50 Murrah animals from a dairy farm in the municipality of Sarapuí - SP will be examined. Buffalo calves will be distributed into two groups, with 25 animals each, according to the number of calving of their mothers: G1 (calves from primiparous buffaloes) and G2 (calves from multiparous buffaloes). Venous blood samples will be collected at the following times: at birth (M0), 24h (M1), 48h (M2) and 72h after birth (M3) and 7 (M4), 14 (M5), 21 (M6), and 30 days of age (M7) for determination of serum concentrations of acute-phase proteins and immunoglobulins by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
