Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the serum protein profile, with emphasis on acute phase proteins and immunoglobulins, in healthy newborn buffalo calves. Blood serum samples of 50 Murrah animals from a dairy farm in the municipality of Sarapuí - SP will be examined. Buffalo calves will be distributed into two groups, with 25 animals each, according to the number of calving of their mothers: G1 (calves from primiparous buffaloes) and G2 (calves from multiparous buffaloes). Venous blood samples will be collected at the following times: at birth (M0), 24h (M1), 48h (M2) and 72h after birth (M3) and 7 (M4), 14 (M5), 21 (M6) and 30 days of age (M7) for determination of serum concentrations of acute phase proteins and immunoglobulins by sodium dodecyl sulfate - polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
