Study of the physico-chemical properties of experimental sealers

Abstract

One of the goals of endodontics is to develop endodontic sealers that are biocompatible and have excellent physical and chemical properties, since they will be in close contact with the periapical tissues and have the function of promoting the best possible sealing of the root canal system. In this context, SealAta and SealAta Plus cements are being proposed to be used for conventional filling and the retrofilling, respectively. Previous studies of our research group (FAPESP process 2013/08335-1) Showed that these endodontic sealers have good biocompatibility , meanwhile , its physicochemical properties are still partly unknown. therefore, the objective of this study will be evaluate the flow , radiopacity , pH and calcium ion release of sealers SealAta and SealAta Plus, compared to sealers Sealapex® and Pro -Root MTA®. For each analysis , they will be used six specimens from each group (n = 6 ). For radiopacity test will be used polyethylene tubes filled with cement that will subsequently be radiographed. The flow test will be conducted according to the standards of ISO 6876/2001. To test the pH and calcium ion release, polyethylene tubes containing cement will be immersed in ultrapure water. After 3 , 24, 72, 168 and 240 hours, the liquid is analyzed by a pH meter and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results will be statistically analyzed by ANOVA and for comparison between groups, the Tukey test will be used , with a significance level of 5 % (p < 0.05).
