Abstract

One of the major areas of Engineering is the area of Image Processing and Image Analysis. For the community is extremely important, because techniques and methods of processing and image analysis are used in different fields, one of which is the area of health. Images often used in experimental research related to biomedicine are those obtained for scanning electron microscopic(SEM). However, for the biological tissue images, more specifically to bone, there is an effective and reliable means of analysis, not be purely qualitative. While providing 2D images, the depth of field that the SEM provides gives the images a three-dimensional look that must be taken into account, particularly when you want to assess the microarchitecture and bone quality. The aim of the research project to be developed during the internship abroad is working with technical and computer processing methods and analysis of images obtained by SEM of obese rats and eutrophic, belonging to the research project of the doctoral thesis. Following the acquisition of the images, they will be processed to improve and enhance subjectively to subsequently adopt a method of analysis that takes into account the three-dimensional appearance of images. This would also try to get a way to quantify important parameters in the evaluation of bone quality.
