Abstract

The following project intends to develop a research on the play Rasto Atrás, written by the Brazilian author Jorge Andrade, in which the main focus would rely on the study of the first staging of Rasto Atrás, realised by Gianni Ratto in 1967.This research's capital objective is the analysis of the scenographic choices made by Gianni Ratto, who was the director and the set designer of the play, and the critical reviews of his staging, focusing on an important characteristic of Andrade's plays: nostalgia. The staging and scenographic analysis will be developed as an incentive to reflect on how Rasto Atrás' characters live this nostalgia.Having said that, I intend to do a comparative study between the play written by Jorge Andrade and the stage performance of Gianni Ratto, and how Ratto managed to bring to the stage the extremely peculiar characteristics of Andrade's work. I will reflect upon how Ratto's technical and poetical choices have contributed to the understanding of the dramaturgic line of progression, which is on itself profound and complex enough, and beyond, on the transmission of intrinsic character and plot characteristics.
