Abstract

The ambient/occupational pollution has been object of study for many researchers due its serious implications on the public health. The Formaldehyde (FA) is a chemical agent widely used a lot of industries, laboratories of anatomy, pathology, histology, emitted for the fuel burning, and also it is expelled in the smoke of the cigarette, which is characterized by ambient and occupational pollutant. The FA is an irritating of the airways, inductor of lung inflammation and a carcinogenic agent. The literature has shown the correlation between exposure to pollution and development or worsening of lung diseases. In this context, our scientific studies have addressed the harmful action of exposure to FA on lung tissue. Among the lung diseases, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a serious disease with a progressive and chronic condition whose etiology is unknown and the incidence is high resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality. Initial studies show worsening of patients with IPF when exposed to pollutants such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide, suggesting that pollution may contribute to the worsening this disease. Thus, the impact of pollution on the course of IPF is not well elucidated thus needing to be investigated. Based on this observation and on our research topic, the association of exposure to FA and its consequences for the worsening of the IPF will be the subject of study of this project. Our studies will prioritize the analysis of cells present into the lung, release and gene expression of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines and evaluation of lung function. This project was conceived considering that the inquiry of the molecular mechanisms of the effect caused for the ambient and occupational poisoning is, today, a fact essential to explain the data unquestioned epidemiologists of the actual damages for the pollution to the health human being and also will contribute with the elucidation of FPI pathogenesis.
