Abstract Tree rings are one of the most reliable natural archives, which is able to produce reconstructions with annual resolution. It has being largely used for the reconstruction of climate and pollution data prior to instrumental records, in both temperate and tropical regions. The aim of the present study is to reconstruct the climate and the atmospheric pollution in five regions of São Paulo City: North, East, South, West and Center. To accomplish this, trees of Tipuana tipu will be sampled, which is a common species in São Paulo city. Two sampling methods will be used for this study: the destructive with the collection of fallen trees and the non-destructive with the use of motor drills. Afterwards, samples will be polished and tree rings will be identified. Later on, tree rings will be measured and dated, and the final chronology will be used to reconstruct the climate based on climate / growth models. The same tree rings will be used for atmospheric pollutants analyses with X Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF). (AU) | |
