Abstract

This research aims to make considerations on the relationship between the erotic motifs of Hilda Hilst´s Cantares and the sublime language. This approach is justified by the fact that the oeuvre orbiting around a particular conception of love that evokes the ideas of inaccessibility and annihilation, manifested in a tense diction in which the ecstasy is represented by a hyperbolic way, manifesting as a dilutive force and the loving experience uses the conflict dynamic. The erotic motifs of Cantares are materialized in images as the dilutive light, the inexorable force of time, threatening beasts and war conflicts, enabling to the context of contemporary poetry and of love theme a whole repertoire of images linked to the ideas of greatness, terror and transcendence that refer to sublime tradition. The sublime, in his turn, is apparently distant to contemporary sensibility, linked to concepts of greatness and transcendence, problematized by aesthetic projects of modernity. Therefore, its presence along the eroticism of Cantares allows the verification of the permanence and actualization of devices of this aesthetic category, which, in Hild Hilst´s oeuvre, find in a particular conception of love a of way manifestation sensible to a critic and modern diction.
