Abstract

Metal complexes have various medical applications, not only for the diagnosis but also for the treatment of diseases. For example, complexes of aluminum are used as antacids, complexes of copper have fungicide activities, complexes of gadolinium are used as contrast agents and complexes of platinum are used in the treatment of cancer. The scope of this project is the synthesis of new Ag (I) and Cu (II) complexes with sulfamethizole, a drug from the class of sulfonamides with antibacterial action. The obtained compounds will be synthesized by reactions in aqueous or alcoholic solution and characterized using several techniques, especially thermal and elementar analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of 1H, 13C and 15N, infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The antibacterial activities of the complexes obtained will also be performed using methods described in the literature and already applied in our research group.
