Abstract Anopheles cruzii is an antropophilic mosquito species that has a significant epidemiological potential, this mosquito is the main vector of human and simian malaria in Brazil, more precisely in Atlantic Forest regions, including São Paulo state. In the city of São Paulo there are still remaining of Atlantic Forests where An. Cruzii is commonly found, the most relevant areas are: (a) Parque Estadual da Cantareira, where Anopheles cruzii is implicated in Plasmodium transmission to howlers that live in the region; (b) Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) - Engenheiro Marsilac, where Anopheles cruzii was found infected with Plasmodium vivax and considered an endemic area with the presence of autochthonous cases of malaria in humans. Although its epidemiological potential, microevolution studies of Anopheles cruzii remain scarce. Taking into account the epidemiological importance of Anopheles cruzii and the lack of information about its population structure and microevolution processes, the aim of this study is to analyze the population structure of Anopheles cruzii mosquitoes from Área de Proteção Ambiental Capivari-Monos and Parque Estadual da Cantareira, using wing geometric morphometric and microsatellites. The knowledge about the Anopheles cruzii population structure might be central to lead to more effective control strategies and help prevent outbreaks. (AU) | |
