Abstract

In the current project, we explore operators from mathematical morphology for the visual analytics of data represented using digital structures, such as graphs. This is an original approach, proved well suited for georeferenced information, with preliminary results already published. For this internship, we focus on georeferenced urban data. The framework of mathematical morphology offers promising operators for the visual analytics in Urban Informatics, which is an emerging and promising research area that has the potential to help cities around the world become more productive, livable, equitable, and resilient. Indeed, these are the objectives of the Center for Urban Science and Progress of the New York University, the global leader in this field and the proposed institution for this internship. The goal of this internship is to combine the experience of the candidate in mathematical morphology with the experience of the internship supervisor in the exploration of urban data, reinforcing an ongoing research collaboration, to develop original methods for the visual analytics of urban data.
