Abstract

The Rutaceae genera Nycticalanthus (monotypic) and Spiranthera (4 species), morphologically similar, have restrict distribution to South America. Both genera are characterized by trifoliate leaves, very aromatic flowers with gynophore and schizocarpic fruits with follicular mericarps. Among the Spiranthera species, S. odoratissima has the larger distribution, the major phenotypic plasticity and occurs only in savanna formations. Until this date the phylogenetic relationships of these genera are unknown because none of them was included in previous phylogenetic analyses. Thus, this study aims to investigate the relationship between Nycticalanthus and Spiranthera and the implicit diversifications process at the different formations where the genera occur. Therefore, reference genomes will be assembled for each genus (type-species, preferably) and, subsequently, the RAD-seq of the other species will be mapped for these genomes. The high reliability mapped regions will be used to infer the phylogenetic relationships of these two species using Bayesian analysis and maximum likelihood. There will also be made searches for possible genomic signatures connected to the environments where the species occur and subsequent analysis of diversification in paleoclimatic and geological history available about the vegetation and the neotropical Rutaceae groups.
