Abstract

Dyslexic children, in addition to having difficulty in reading and writing, also have poor postural control performance. Recent studies suggest that dyslexic children show poor oculomotor performance that might affect behavioral performance. The goal of this study will investigate the effect of eye movement in different visual tasks in postural control in dyslexic children. Twenty dyslexic children will be compared with twenty non-dyslexic of similar age. All children will be underwent ophthamologic and optometric evaluation. Eye movements will be recorded by a video-oculography system (EyeBrain® T2) and postural stability will be recorded with a platform (TechnoConcept®) while the child will make visual tasks: fixations, silent reading of a text, and Landolt reading. Center of pressure (CoP) will be used to examine postural control performance (variability and sway magnitude). Reading performance will be assessed by counting the number of words read during the postural task. Finally, eye movement will be assessed by obtaining the number of fixations, number of saccades, duration and peak velocity of each saccades. (AU)
