Comparative angiographic study of diabetic and non-diabetic patients with critical limb ischemia

Abstract

Context The PAD affects mainly patients with risk factors for atherosclerosis. Diabetics have about 5-15 times more likely to develop atherosclerotic arterial disease in relation to non diabetics and these alterations are more prevalent in distal arteries. Few studies have marked the distribution and severity of the arterial changes in diabetics compared with non-diabetics and its correlation with risk factors. Objectives: Compare the peripheral arterial changes shown in angiographic study of diabetic and non-diabetic patients with critical limb ischemia and compare these with the risk factors. Methods: There will be Retrospective study of patients with angiography of lower limbs and critical limb ischemia, peripheral arterial comparing changes between diabetics and non-diabetics, from 2009 to 2014. The sample size was calculated in 140 patients. Will be included good quality angiograms and excluded arteriography of the upper limbs, other diseases, lack of information in the medical record, previous vascular restorations. The changes will be evaluated using angiographic scores (TASC II and Bollinger). In addition, demographic and atherosclerotic risk profile will be pooled for both groups and compared using chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and logistic regression.
