Abstract

Barychelidae includes two Subfamilies (Barychelidae and Sasoninae), 42 genus and 295 species. Sasoninae comprises four genera: Sason Simon, Cosmopelma Simon, Neodiplothele Mello-Leitão, e Paracenobiopelma Feio. The Family and its sister group of the Theraphosidae, are supported by the presence of dense scapulae on the tarsi I and I, distinct claw tufts and tarsal clavate trichobothria. Sasoninae is characterized by the apical segment of the posterior lateral spinnerets short and conical, eye tubercle absent or low and eyes group much wider than long. Until the present time, there are no reviews of the genera of Sasoninae on the neotropical region and neither studies on the phylogenetic relationships among the members of the subfamily. The objective of this project is to study the phylogenetic relationships of the genera of Sasoninae, as well as the subfamily position within Barychelidae, based on morphological characters, and also elaborate new diagnoses, description and an identification key to genera and species. Through the Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE), financed by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), will be possible to examine the holotypes and a large number of specimens of Barychelidae of Central Africa deposited in Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, also the specimens deposited in the Zoologische Staatssammlung München, Munique, Zoological Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen, National Collection of Arachnida, Plant Protection Research Intistute, Pretória, Africa do Sul, which will be requested as a loan advance by the supervisor. As well as, visits to Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France and British Museum of Natural History, London, England, for the study the holotypes and others specimens to be included in the phylogenetic analysis.
