Influence of powder-gel ratio on the physicochemical properties of calcium silicate based material

Abstract

Calcium silicate-based cements may be used as repair material or as endodontics sealers. Neo MTA Plus is a calcium silicate-based material indicated as repair material or endodontic sealer by changing the power/gel ratio. This study aims to evaluate pH, solubility, setting time, radiopacity, conventional and volumetric (Micro CT) flow of Neo MTA Plus in the ratios 3:1 (root-end filling sealer) and 1:1 (endodontic sealer) compared with Biodentine and BC Sealer. For analysis of pH, experimental periods will be 12, 24 hours, 3, 7, 14 days. The setting time tests, flow and radiopacity will be evaluate according to ISO 6876/2002. Gilmore needle with mass 100 ± 0,5g and diameter of 2 ± 0,1mm will be used to evaluate the setting time. For radiopacity test specimens of each material will be radiographed with aluminum scale to determine the equivalence of the radiopacity in millimeters of aluminum. The solubility test will be performed according to Carvalho-Junior et al. (2007) after 7 days of immersion in distilled water. The analysis in Micro CT will be performed to flow analysis using a device made with glass plates with channels to evaluate the fill into central cavity and lateral flow. The results will be submitted to a normality test, followed by statistical parametric test ANOVA and Tukey, with 5% significance.
