Abstract

New formulations of tricalcium silicate cements are developed. Experimental tricalcium silicate (C3S) cement is indicated in its pure form (C3S). Currently, tricalcium silicate doped with fluorine ions (C3S-F) has been developed with potential use as repair biomaterial. The aim of this study will be to evaluate the new tricalcium silicate based materials (C3S-F) associated with 30% calcium tungstate radiopacifier, in comparison to the MTA Repair HP. Physicochemical properties, viability and cellular bioactivity will be evaluated. The setting time, radiopacity and solubility will be based on ISO 6876. The pH measurement will be performed by using digital pH meter. The MTT and neutral red tests will be performed to define the dilution of the eluate from the materials. Subsequently, a new MTT assay and alkaline phosphatase assay will be performed to evaluate cell viability and bioactivity after contact with eluate of the materials for 3 and 7 days. The red alizarin assay will be performed to identify the calcium deposit in cell culture after 21 days of contact with the cement. The data obtained for each evaluation will be submitted to the appropriate statistical tests, with significance level of 5%. (AU)
