Abstract

The thoracoscopy proves important for the diagnosis and therapy of pulmonary affections in veterinary medicine. Studies show that thoracoscopic procedures cause less pain and faster postoperative recovery. Thus, the objective of this study is suggest minimally invasive thoracoscopic technique using a biportal approach to perform lung biopsy in animals weighing less than 5 kg, moreover, it is intended to describe and evaluate the hand tied loop technique for low-weight animals. So ten rabbits will be used as an experimental model, it will be described thoracoscopy technique through two portals, with paraxiphoid transdiaphragmatic approach for the first portal, and intercostal approach for the second portal. The lung fragment will be obtained by hand tied loop developed for small patients. It is expected that the proposed technique will allow appropriate access to the pleural cavity with minimal trauma to the thoracic structures and enable performing a lung biopsy using hand tied loop without occurrence of trans and postoperative complications. Pre-operative and postoperative chest x-rays will be performed and compared in order to verify the absence of pneumothorax and hemothorax. Thoracic macroscopic changes and the effectiveness of hand tied loop will be checked on the fifteenth day after the operation through the necropsy of the ten animals. (AU)
