Abstract

This project is to describe the plan of activities to be realized over the course of internship at the Early Music Departament of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), Barcelona. Since this proposal is fundamentaly connected to the main study plan - a complete and an unprecedented translation of the complete theorical ouvre of Italian violinist, composer and writer Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762) - , our goal is to deepen the contextualization of those six interelated treatises so important for the 18th century English music, regarding cultural environment and period precepts of taste, style, ornamentation and performance, highly discussed by Geminiani. We will particularly enjoy the guidance of Professor Emilio Moreno, PhD, currently one of the leading musicologist-performers and researchers of period-performance practice, being an world-wide icon of the so-called Early Music field. In addition, all research facilities will be at the student's disposal, as well as the opportunity to publish the results of this project in the Revista de l'Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, the scientific magazine provided by the institution which will permit european readers to have access to this brazilian survey. The interchange between prestigious scholars, artists and other graduate students, will allow the achievement of the excelent results we look for. The purpose of this internship is to provide commentaries - the chapter II of the main research - to the translation of the six Geminiani's treatises, which is in its final revision. Based on primary source available at ESMUC's library, it will be possible to highlight fundamental precepts mentioned above. Furthermore, establishing an institutional dialogue between both universities, this internship will foster the promotion and publication of the works produced here and vice-versa. (AU)
