Development and tissue reaction of a new latex composite Hancornia speciosa Gomes and silver nanoparticles

Abstract

The first protective barrier of the human body is the skin, an organ that is exposed to variable forms of aggression that can alter its structure forming wounds that interfere its functionality. In the acute phase of wound healing, when there is any complication, for example infections and foreign bodies, trauma, diabetes and vascular disease a delay in this process may occur, making it difficult causing a chronic condition. Thus, the development of functional curatives that can accelerate the healing process by combining the intrinsic actions of components - in this case angiogenic activity - of natural latex extracted from Harconia speciosa and antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) is of great importance for medical, bringing in future benefits to society. For this study 18 Wistar rats will undergoing surgical procedures for implantion subcutaneously in the back three biomaterials composed of H. speciosa latex associated with silver nanoparticles, in concentrations of 0.05%, 0.5% and 0 (no nanoparticles). After periods of 3, 7 and 21 days, six animals from each group will be submitted to euthanasia. The areas of the implants will be collected with a margin of 5 mm of skin to perform microscopic analysis. The degree of local inflammatory reaction will be assessed and also the presence of granulation tissue and neovascularization. The scores obtained for the tissue response of the 3 groups will be compared by the nonparametric Kruskal Wallis test and will be considered statistically different if p <0.05.
