Abstract

DNA as the molecule that carries the biological code and the information about all proteins in the cell is highly sensitive against mutations that may result in cell death. The proteins MutY and MuG are part of the base excision repair (BER) pathway which protects the DNA from mutations. Our interest is to understand the specificity of this mechanism, the molecular and structural basics behind and even the inhibition of this function. Furthermore, the design and development of inhibitor lead structures. This pathogen has an importance in the global economy with large losses in the production of meat, milk and wool production. Several countries have had losses of millions of dollars a year, such as the Brazilian Northeast, which has the largest goat herd in Brazil. And Australia, which had in a year, losses of 35 million dollars.Structural research, biophysics and biochemistry can provide important information about the druggability of the targets under investigation.Functional and structural research of proteins is a key feature of Multi-User Centre for Bio molecular Innovation (CMIB) located in the state university of São Paulo-UNESP (São José do Rio Preto) (http://www.cmib-unesp.com/).
