Abstract

The dialogue between global and local is now more intense and perceptible because we have been living in a context where communication has increasingly become international. One of the components of this environment is the international broadcasting, which is characterized by its potential to act abroad as a tool for diplomacy and for intercultural dialogues. Although it is not a new phenomenon, academic productions on international broadcasting are scarce. Thus, the main objective of this research is to identify Voice of America's characteristics in order to comprehend the aspects of an international broadcaster operated from the United States of America. To do so, the following topics will be considered: a) historical aspects; b) offered services; and c) management and funding model. Besides, the intended analysis will be based on a literature survey on international communication. The study will especially offer new references and parameters to the research that has been developed in Brazil.
