Abstract

This project is associated to the topic 4.3.1 of the scientific kernel of the proposal and consists of the control design for a rotor-bearing system susceptible to hydrodynamic instabilities and parameters variations due to rotational speed dependant model and to components wear. It is proposed to apply and compare robust controllers, such as H and µ-synthesis, to adaptive controllers, LPV (Linear Parameters Variation) control. This task requires identifying of the systems sensitivity to different sources of variations, and the decision to classify then as uncertainties or variable parameters, since this decision usually implies in the relation between robustness, performance and numerical complexity. The control effort will be applied to the shaft without physical contact by electromagnetic force through a magnetic actuator, which also adds uncertainties to the system. The controllers will be compared by means of computational simulations; it is expected to observe far superior performance provided by the LPV control since they are not as conservative as robust control techniques. The obtained results will be validated by experimental tests on a test rig. (AU)
