Abstract In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the kingdom of Castile, the rules governing the clergy, religious or regular, prescribed that this appeared, in society, as an example to be followed by those who would lead a virtuous life. At that time, the conduct of priestly practices, ordering the conduct of the clergy and faithful, and the production of own documents to the correction of clerical deviations came to be regarded as decisive, so that speaking and writing as well as canon law and reflections on the sacraments have become key parts in these initiatives to regulate the clergy conduct aimed ultimately the faithful. In this study, only the first treated in spanish vernacular aimed at moralizing the so-called rude clergy - that considered abated from science and oblivious to the canons of the Church - will be analyzed, as they focus standards, prescriptions and advice as to the ways that the clergy should be guided in order to guide the avowed. From these treaties, we interrogate about the elements and vocabularies that come together in the development of an exemplary image of the clergy, with emphasis on the negative actions highlighted by theologians and canonists in the systematization of virtuous.
