Abstract

The Brazilian beef production from feedlot have been increased due to requirements of the market on efficiency and meat quality. Feedlot diets rich in concentrates may increase the risks of metabolic disorders ( ex. acidosis) caused by higher ingestion of carbohydrates with high rate of fermentation. The use of crude glycerin combined with virginiamycin may increase the utilization of lactate from Megasphaera elsdenii and Selenomonas ruminantium bacteria and reduction of lactate producers such as Streptoccus bovis and Lactobacilli, which could decrease the risks of acidosis and increment on animal performance. The performance and carcass traits of Nelore bulls where evaluated in feedlot diets with virginiamycin ( 0 or 25 ppm in the DM) combined with crude glycerin (0 or 10% in the DM). The diets where roughge: concentrate (15:85). The animal intake, weight gain and carcass tratis will be evaluated during the experiment. The data of performance (48 animals) will be analyzed in a interaly random design in a factorial arrangement 2 X 2, crude glycerin and virginiamycin using the procedure MIXED of SAS (version 9.2).
