Abstract

This research project has as objective investigates the subjects involved in the cancellation of protection of a cultural object, in other words, administrative resource whose use has been growing in recent times, in spite of his exceptional character. The intention is to understand, in the context of the public politics of preservation in the state of São Paulo, which the moventes and the agents involved in the action of the annulment of the tombamento, as it has been used and which are the problems that he joins, while it turns without effect the legal instrument more used in Brazil for the preservation of cultural objects. To what extent the increase in protection cancellation cases indicates some weakening of preservation instrument? In addition to the interference of political and economic issues, cancellation suggests ambiguities and transformations in identifying values to cultural property in recent times? In this context, based on the analysis of selected processes belonging to the three conservation levels (federal, state and municipal), this research aims to identify and discuss the main causes, discussions and repercussions associated with the cancellation protection of a cultural heritage.
