Abstract

The Erythrina genus (Fabaceae) is widely known by the strong presence of erythrinian alkaloids which are a class of secondary metabolites described as chemotaxonomic markers of this genus. These alkaloids are also responsible for several biological activities related to the treatment of disorders such as insomnia, anxiety, depression and epilepsy, among other actions in Central Nervous System, which make the species from this genus potential herbal drugs for the development of phytomedicines. The efficacy of such medicines is only possible if there is a strict quality control of the entire production process to ensure consistency in toxicological safety and therapeutic action, which are fundamental requirements for modern medicines. One of the approaches used for this purpose is the chemical fingerprinting, obtained mainly by chromatographic analysis. In this context, the aim of this project is to develop a method by UPLC-DAD-MS to obtain the chemical fingerprint of three species of Erythrina: E. verna, E. falcata and E. mulungu, which are widely mentioned in folk medicine textbooks and even used in herbal preparations sold in Brazil.
