Abstract

Gutta-percha point adaptation and properties of endodontic sealers can influence the filling during the root canal obturation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of gutta-percha point adaptation and endodontic sealer used in apical filling of curved root canals. Simulated canals in resin blocks with 45º of curvature will be prepared with heat treated Nickel-Titanium instruments (Easy ProDesign Logic) #25.01 and 25.06. The prepared canals will be scanned using microtomography device (Micro-CT SkyScan 1176, Bruker, Kontich, Belgium). Three hundred and eighty-four gutta-percha points #25.06 were measured and selected with diameter 25 and according to ideal taper (GPI - taper between 0,059 and 0,061) or smaller one (GPS - taper between 0,040 and 0,053). After preparation, canals will be filled with AH Plus (AHP) or BC Sealer (BCS) sealer by using single cone technique. The filled canals will be divided randomly into 4 experimental groups (n=8): GPI/AHP, GPI/BCS, GPS/AHP e GPS/BCS. A new scan will be performed. All the proposed scans (initial and after canal filling) will be made in with standard parameters. The root canal filling capacity will be evaluated according to volume of filling (in mm³) and volume of fails (%) observed in the apical region. Data will be subject to ANOVA and Tukey tests, with 5% of significance.
