Abstract

Obesity is a well-studied phenomenon concerning its nutritional, metabolic, and cardiovascular aspects. This is due to its elevated prevalence around the world. It is generally associated with a variety of comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. However, little is known about how the systems that regulate hydroelectrolytic homeostasis are acting in an obese individual. This work has the objective to clarify how obesity modulates the hydromineral balance. For this purpose, Wistar male rats treated with a high-fat diet (60% lipids) during 15 weeks will be submitted to a 24-h fluid deprivation. Functional, hormonal, and gene expression parameters will be determined in these animals in order to observe the effect of adiposity on the fluid homeostasis.
