Abstract We intend to study different methods of analysis of the velocity distribution of galaxies in clusters aiming to establish how Gaussian the distribution is and its reliability. We will be studying the catalog of groups and clusters defined in Yang et al. 2007 (ApJ, 671, 153). The properties of galaxies in these systems are available in the SDSS-DR7. In this project, we will also study the distribution of orbits of galaxies in groups/clusters making use of a program developed by one of the members of the thematic project (MAMPOSSt - Modelling Anisotropy and Mass Profiles of Observed Spherical Systems, Mamon, MNRAS, 429, 3079) thus assessing the relation between Gaussianity and mass profile of the system.
