Abstract

The identification of the predictor cognitive abilities for the development of reading may be carried by the means of tests applied on children even before the literacy process. Instruments that assess rapid automatic naming and vocabulary are useful to predict reading performance. Rapid automatic naming is the ability to quickly name a printed symbol and it is related to reading fluency, whereby vocabulary is related to reading comprehension or reading competence. Therefore, it is important to develop instruments that assess these two aspects. (AU)
