Abstract Twistor theory and superstring theory were developed in the 1970s as possible alternatives to quantum field theory. Ten years ago these two theories were unified to describe N=4 d=4 super-Yang-Mills producing more efficient methods to compute scattering amplitudes. This doctoral project will be to study the role of twistors in the d=10 superstring formalism with pure spinors and use this twistorial interpretation to simplify the calculations of d=10 super-Yang-Mills and d=10 supergravity amplitudes in the superstring.
