Abstract

Reflections of allogenic factors on the evolution of fluvial systems are present in the landscape and provide subsidies for paleoenvironmental reconstruction. Marked by the development of a meandering river channel and of an asymmetrical alluvial plain, the Jacaré-Guaçu river has, in the chosen individualized segment, typical forms and features of a dynamic river environment. Based on radiocarbon dating (14C) and on Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL); on topossequences and descriptions of deposits; and on morphological interpretations of the landscape and on the individualization of low terraces and channel features by means of orbital and non-orbital images, the objective is to understand the environmental conditions present along the Upper Pleistocene and the Holocene, within a framework of modifications of the climatic conditions, as well as its impact on the morphogenesis of river terraces. An evolutionary model for the fluvial plain will be established by means of a morpho-chronological reconstruction of a Jacaré-Guaçu river segment that extends longitudinally for 10 km, and of its respective fluvial plain, at the boundary between the municipalities of Araraquara and Boa Esperança do Sul, in the state of São Paulo (Brazil), which is a representative sector for the dynamic interpretation of the local fluvial environment.
