Abstract

We shall study in our research the concept of determination, such as this concept is conceived and used by Hegel in order to provide a logical foundation to his conception of the rational self-determination as the ground of our knowledge. We believe that the concept of determination, even if it appears at times to be of secondary importance, is central to the understanding of the project of placing rational self-determination as the ground of our knowledge, a project advocated by Hegel and by the other great proponents of German Idealism before him. Indeed, we hope to show that, to put ration self-determination as the ground of our knowledge, it was key for Hegel to reformulate the concept of determination regarding the way through which it was used and understood by his antedecessors. We hope, thus, to expose how a certain conception of determination is at the core of Hegel's philosophical project. (AU)
