Abstract

Of the group of 5-nitroimidazoles, secnidazole is an antifungal and antiprotozoal agent that treats several intestinal and systemic parasitoses besides being effective in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. In Brazil, secnidazole is in the form of a tablet, powder for oral suspension and in vaginal cream when in combination with other drugs. The sales of secnidazole are recurrent, as it is widely used in the treatment of intestinal parasitoses, which are considered a serious public health problem in Brazil and in the world. Thus, studies related to this drug become unavoidable, especially on quality control, which will ensure the characteristics of the drug as well as patient safety. The validation of analytical methods is fundamental for quality control; And in view of this, the project aims to develop and validate two innovative analytical methods for the quantification of secnidazole tablets. Prioritizing green chemistry, spectrophotometry in the infrared (IV) region consists of a clean technique with very low production of toxic waste for operators and the environment, and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) becomes an innovative alternative to the existing techniques, since the mobile phase will not consist of buffer solutions, which reduce the life of the equipment column. Therefore, this project is extremely modern and relevant for the development of pharmaceutical chemical control to ensure the efficacy of secnidazole tablets. (AU)
