Abstract

Staphylococcus belongs to Staphylococcaceae family and consists of gram-positive cocci. Are opportunistic bacteria that can cause diseases in humans and animals, in that inhabit the normal microbiota of humans, they are identified as major cause of nosocomial diseases and the community. In the hospital and laboratory environment contamination coat of professionals is necessary, as a risk to the health of patients, since the coat becomes a vehicle for the dissemination of the microorganism. Some bacteria have the ability to produce biofilm, among them S. aureus stands out due to its pathogenicity. The biofilm is composed of a multilayer of bacterial cells that may contribute to the adherence of this bacteria in the coat surface and antimicrobial resistance may hamper the treatment of infections caused by that organism. Thus, this study aims to characterize S. aureus isolates white coats of students of Biomedicine of the University of West Paulista (UNOESTE) for the production of biofilm and antimicrobial susceptibility.
