Abstract

The gole of this thesis is to investigate whether there is evidence of peer effects on the socioemotional competences of elementary school students. First, we focuses on a traditional model of peer effects estimation that allows the identification of the endogenous and contextual effects, controlling for the possibility of correlated effects. Then, using a database with information about students friendship links, which will allow us to build their social network (characterized by the set of these links), we will analyze which characteristics most influence the formation process of these social networks. Finally, using another econometric method we will investigate the possibility of heterogeneity on peer effects, exploring the role of student network location in the intensity of these effects. (AU)
