Abstract

Considering the limits of the world's dominant agrifood system, based on large and long agroindustrial chains, mediated by few and big international corporations and fomented by neoliberal public policies, presents in mitigating the problems of poverty and hunger mainly in developing countries, as well as their environmental and social impacts, new conceptions, experiences, and public policies have arisen by proposing the construction of more localized and sustainable agrifood systems. Based on this perspective, the present research project will seek to analyse the limits and potentials that these public policies have in promoting more localized agrifood systems, considering categories such as autonomy, locality, heritage and sustainability. Therefore, in addition to the accomplishment of an in-depth bibliographical review on the international literature that deals with the themes of this project, public policies that promote localized agrifood systems in both Brazil and the US will be identified and systematized. After this initial process, will be selected and delimited some networks established by the public policies studied, with the aim of understanding, at the local level, the agrifood systems that are being constituted by the policies incentive. Questionnaires will be applied and interviews will be conducted with the different actors involved in each network (farmers, managers of farmers' organizations, public managers, representatives of consumer institutions, among other possible agents to be identified). The aim of the research is to understand the role of these policies in promoting localized agrifood systems, identifying their limits and potentials.
