Abstract

Mass movements are natural processes in the slopes evolution. They result from the association between triggering factors (e.g., high rainfall) and controlling factors, such as morphometry, morphology, lithology, pedological aspects, among others. These are quite frequent events in Brazil since this one has a great extension mountain ranges and high rainfall indexes. Given the frequency of these events in Brazilian territory and its damages, it is necessary to have research to understand the dynamics of these processes. For this, the municipality of Itaoca, in the Ribeira Valley (SP), was selected after debris flows triggered. The present work aims at understanding which are the geomorphological conditioning factors fundamental to these types of natural disasters. Therefore, two similar basins will be selected, with different responses of debris flows. After we provide identification morphological parameters will be made to these types of events and, finally, an evaluation relations between the morphological parameters and debris flows. (AU)
