Abstract

This project aim to evaluate the pharmacological potential of flavone Chrysin, a flavonoid naturally found in honey, propolis and some species of plants, like passion fruit (Passiflora coerulea), in experimental models of major gastrointestinal disorders that affect human population, like peptic ulcer and intestinal mucositis induced by chemotherapy. Therefore, will be used acute and sub-acute models, in rodents of peptic ulcer induced by anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drug (AINE), absolute ethanol, ischemia and reperfusion and polypharmacy, besides of induction of intestinal mucositis by 5-Fluoruracil (5-FU). Will be analyzed macroscopic parameters (lesion area), antioxidants biochemists (superoxide dismutase, reduced glutathione, catalase, lipid peroxidation), anti-inflammatory (myeloperoxidase, TNF-A and IL-10). In the experiments described above, will be obtained parameters to analyze the possible toxic effects of the continuous use of Chrysin through weight loss evolution, mortality, macroscopic analyzes of organs and biochemistry exams of blood and plasma. The results obtained will provide data about mechanisms of action involved in each pharmacological activity of this flavone, besides offer scientific subsidy to future incorporation of this compound like therapeutic option in prevalent diseases of gastrointestinal tract (Peptic Ulcer and Intestinal Mucositis).
