Gingival biotype and digital analysis of the smile in young adults

The aim of this study is to evaluate the gingival biotype in a sample of Young adults, correlating with clinical periodontal parameters and digital analysis of the smile. Sixty patients, 30 men and 30 women, 18-30 years, sistemically and periodontally healthy will be examined according to probing depth (PD), recession, hyperplasia, keratinized gingiva width, gingival thickness, full mouth plaque score, and full mouth bleeding index. Gingival biotype will be determined according to transgingival method. After that, patients will be separated into two groups: F- thin gingival biotype and E- thick gingival biotype. Digital photographs according to digital smile design (DSD) protocol will be obtained and inserted in the DSD template for Keynote to analyse interdental width, width/length of central incisors crown, tooth form, gingival architecture, and interdental papillae. Data will be statistically analyzed by descriptive methods and compared between E and F groups according to t test (linear measures) and Mann Whitney (non-linear measures). The correlation among gingival biotype, characteristics of form and size of central incisors, keratinized gingiva width, papillae height and gingival architecture, as well as gingiva thickness, will be analyzed by Spearman and Pearson's correlation test and two-way ANOVA.
