Abstract

This project will focus on fusion of data from social media and physical sensors for rainfall monitoring. social media has been a valuable source of (near) real-time information that can be employed to heighten the data obtained from physical sensors, as well as increase the spatial coverage over surveillance areas. Hence, social media platforms can be seen as a channel which provides a way to spread timely and fine-grained information, in effect by allowing people to act as human sensors. Furthermore, there are an insufficient number of physical sensors distributed in the territory of Brazil and lack of accurate and updated data on urban areas. Information fusion and data mining techniques will be employed to achieve the objective of improving rainfall monitoring on urban areas. (AU)
