Abstract

The migratory theme gained prominence in Brazilian public policies during the first Getúlio Vargas government (1930-1945). Nevertheless, in his second government (1951-1954), Vargas was still concerned about the immigration policy that was to be implemented in Brazil. In order to control and direct the immigration movement after World War II, the president proposed the creation of the National Institute of Immigration and Colonization (INIC). Thus, the present work intends to analyze the configuration of the Brazilian immigration policy from the foundation of this Institute, as well as the activities and debates that occurred in the first year of its operation.
