Abstract

This project proposes the analysis of social technologies in preventing violence, drug abuse and trafficking inspired by the "risk behavior prevention" approach, taken in action by NGOs professionals or other forms of collective social initiatives, in France and in Brazil. It aims at discussing the issues of subjectivation processes involved in such prevention as well as the application of the concept of "risk" in populations management situations through the ethnographic analysis of speeches and practices from the professionals working in this field. Such professionals adopt social technologies that value (re)subjectivation processes as much as empowerment, autonomy and self-esteem development, opposing to repressive solutions based in social control. The project has three goals: ethnographic, theoretical and comparative. The ethnographic one proposes the description and analysis of speeches and social technologies used by professionals to prevent risk (and social problems) focusing on its risk understandings as much as on the subjectivation processes that are put into action to prevent it. The theoretical part tries to articulate the relations among collective action and risks prevention with the theories of subject and subjectivation processes, through the discussion of correlations between the subject configurations that are the target population of these initiatives and the (re)subjectivation processes implemented in them, aiming at preventing a certain kind of behavior. In the comparative area, the target is to elaborate hypothesis and analysis that may allow the visualization of the relations among the different types of the addressed prevention in both countries, as of fieldwork already done in France and to be done in Brazil (AU)
