Abstract

The following project has the intention of analysing the amatory correspondence of James Joyce, departing from some thematics to be emphasized: the pornographic and erotic element, the confessional content, and the profane subversion of Christian motives through parody and/or satire. In order to establish this analysis, we will try to understand the thematic and formal particularities which define and singularize the love letter as a subgenre (CARVALHO, 2005) at the core of the epistolary genre, and in which way the mentioned themes integrate themselves to this subgenre and define the distinctive content of Joyce's amatory correspondence. We have selected an average of 40 letters among the most representative ones, which comprehend the years of 1904, 1909 and 1912. (AU)
