Abstract

Cryptococcosis is an infectious disease with worldwide distribution and high mortality caused by yeasts of the species Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii. The therapy of the disease is limited by problems of toxicity, resistance to antifungal available and high cost. Studies on organic compounds containing tellurium (Te), selenium (S) and sulfur (S) showed that these have considerable activity against microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. Thus, the overall objective of this project is to antifungal potential of synthetic compounds containing Te, Se and S in the control of Cryptococcus spp. using in vitro and in vivo model. (AU)
