Abstract

In the contemporary context, the approach of architects with the computational design and the digital fabrication increases. The creative power of this integration finds a privileged space in what we call "development centers of digital fabrication" - places for research, experimentation and development of architectural strategies and artifacts. The research will map these locations in South America and examine the specificities of their production, linked to the local context, as well as other data related to the agents and the established infrastructure. The objective is to systematize the data of centers classified as fabrication laboratories, linked to both teaching and research institutions and to private laboratories, and to present a recent historical genealogy of the digital manufacturing applied to architecture and design in South America. Establish comparatives with renowned laboratories from abroad. The methodology involves bibliographic review, data mapping and case studies, through surveys, interviews and documents from the centers. In this way, it will be possible to present an ongoing picture of digital design, manufacturing specificities and the context of emerging production in the region.
