Abstract

Aquaculture is the most successful zootechnical activity in Brazil during the last decade, leveraging the jobs supply, income generation and the feed industry. Food is responsible for approximately 60% of the total production costs and the reduction of its economic impact depends on the choice of the ingredients in order to optimize the production, aiming at the greater use of the nutrients at the lowest cost of production taking into consideration water quality and farmed animals health. The diets used to feed carnivorous fish are generally abundant in crude protein and are often dependent on fishmeal [FM] - an ingredient in scarcity and at a high cost. The substitution of FM by protein hydrolysates of terrestrial origin in diets for carnivorous fish can be an important alternative for the optimization of production and the reduction of fishery exploitation. However, in the few studies carried out with hydrolysates uses mostly fishery residues and with few aproach on the influence of these ingredients on the intestinal epithelium, body composition or hormonal activity of appetite in fish. The present project is a continuation of a doctoral thesis (process FAPESP n° 2013/16023-0) and aims to evaluate: The digestibility of diets containing inclusion levels of swine liver hydrolysates in diets for dourados; The performance of dourados juveniles fed the test diets and their association with the expression of genes related to feeding, intestinal histology, and the muscular constitution of the fish. During the period of validity scholarship, is intended to carry out part of the research in Canada, through a abroad scholarship grant (Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE) FAPESP). The results of this study will be published in a scientific journal with the objective of contributing to determine optimal levels of inclusion of this ingredient in diets for carnivorous fish benefiting both the production and the health of the animals.
