Abstract Objective: Verify the motivational factors for physical exercise among university students. Methods: Students from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP, Araraquara (SP) will participate in this study. The motivation for the exercise will be estimated using the Exercise Motivations Inventory (EMI -2). In characterization of the sample, demographic and academic information will be collected, as well as data of body satisfaction and exercise level. The BMI will be calculated from the self-reported measures of weight (kg) and height (m) and used to classify nutritional status. The construct validity (factorial, convergent and discriminant) will be verified through confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA) using the maximum likelihood estimation method. The chi-square ratio for the degrees of freedom (c2/df), the comparative fit index (CFI), the normed fit index (NFI) and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA). The adjustment will be considered adequate if factorial weights (l) e0.50; c2/df d2.0; CFIe0.90; NFI e0.80 and RMSEA d0.10. Reliability will be measured by composite reliability (CC) and internal consistency calculated by the standardized Cronbach's alpha coefficient (±). The calculation of the global score will be performed considering the matrix of regression weights obtained in the CFA. The weighted items will be summed to generate the overall score that will be estimated for each of the EMI-2 factors. Variance Analysis will be conducted to compare the scores of the EMI-2 factors according to the variables of interest (gender, economic level, nutritional status, body dissatisfaction and level of physical exercise). For decision making, a significance level of 5% will be adopted. (AU) | |
