Abstract

The objective of this trial is evaluate the effects of stress on performance and gastrointestinal barrier function in beef cattle. Animals used in this trial will be fed during 56 days and will receive a high energy diet. Over the period in feedlot will be collected daily data of dry matter intake, average daily gain, and feed efficiency, and animal will be weighed every two weeks. The gastrointestinal barrier will be challenged through a protocol transport in a truck. The digestibility marker used will be Chromium-EDTA. The hypothesis is that animals that suffer stress (climate, nutritional, psychological) have a disorder in the permeability of the gastrointestinal tract barrier and because of that, is possible that occur a passage of undesirable compounds of the intestinal lumen into the cells coming the entail health problems and a low quality of beef.
