Abstract

Paleogeographic reconstructions of pre-Cambrian continental masses configurations are of great importance for the understanding of the geological and life evolution. Paleocontinents covered by thick sedimentary packages and from which the geology is poorly known, usually are not considered in the paleogeographic sketches of Rodinia-Gondwana evolution, where the paleomagnetic data achievement is difficult. The constitution from one of these continents, the Paranapanema Block, during the Western Gondwana construction can be studied through the adjacent mobile belts. The sedimentary provenance and magmatic character investigations from these orogenic belts contribute indirectly for the knowledge of these paleocontinentes basement composition, the position of these blocks in relation to the others and how were their interactions. The present project proposes to investigate, through sedimentary provenance studies and magmatic character (U-Pb, Lu-Hf, REE and ´18O in zircon crystals, isotopic - Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr - and elemental geochemistry in whole-rock), the Northern Paraguai Belt and its context in the Western Gondwana construction.
